ALRIGH2T Consortium Takes Positive Midterm Stock in Naples

During its second General Assembly, held from 9 to 11 December 2025 in Naples, the European research project ALRIGH2T presented significant progress toward climate‑neutral aviation. Hosted by project partner ATENA, the international consortium reviewed the current project status and coordinated the next steps toward demonstrating liquid hydrogen (LH₂) refueling at airports.

Key results relate to the technical, safety‑related, and techno‑economic foundations of direct LH₂ refueling. Analyses indicate that, in particular, a pipeline connection combined with local liquefaction represents a flexible and cost‑efficient long‑term supply option for airports such as Milan Malpensa.

The Institute of Plant and Process Technology at TUM is significantly involved in the thermodynamic modeling of LH₂ refueling processes. Dynamic models for cryogenic tanks and pumps are being developed, serving as a basis for safety analyses, digital twins, and validation against demonstration data.

As the project enters its second phase, ALRIGH2T will further specify its demonstration activities, thereby making an important contribution to the development of safe and scalable hydrogen infrastructure for aviation.
