Chair of Sustainable Drivetrains founded, new publication on efficient E-fuel engines

TUM.PtX News |

The new Chair of Sustainable Drivetrains was founded within the TUM School of Engineering and Design on 1st October 2021. It is part of the Department Mobility Systems Engineering and it is lead by Professor Malte Jaensch, PhD. The Chair works on topics such as sustainable fuels, hydrogen, and electric drivetrains.

New lectures will be first offered in the winter term 2022/23.
A new journal article in the field of power-to-x fuels was published recently. It features an overview of C1-fuels for spark ignited engines (Otto-principle). These oxygenates do not contain C-C-bonds in the molecule and hence do not produce any particle emissions. As they have an extremely high knocking resistance, highest efficiency is achievable. The study investigates methanol and its follow-up products dimethyl carbonate (DMC) and methyl formate (MeFo). The fuels can potentially substitute fossil oil-based gasoline and can even be used in the existing vehicle fleet [doi].
