Expanding international collaboration

On May 6, 2026, the Munich Institute of Integrated Materials, Energy and Process Engineering (MEP) at the Technical University of Munich welcomed a distinguished delegation from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in Guangzhou, led by President Prof. Nancy Ip. The visit took place at the TUM Institute of Advanced Study (IAS) and provided a valuable platform for exchange between the two institutions.
The visit centered on both academic exchange and personal interaction. Representatives from both institutions introduced their organizations and highlighted ongoing research activities. MEP was represented by its directors, Prof. Nikolaus A. Adams, Prof. Sonja Berensmeier and Prof. Thomas Hamacher, who provided insights into the institute’s interdisciplinary approach as well as its key initiatives and strategic objectives.
The program also included an introduction to the Cluster of Excellence e-conversion by Prof. Jan Torgersen. His presentation highlighted recent developments in energy conversion research and underscored the importance of innovative technologies in shaping a sustainable energy future.
The visit also provided an opportunity to further strengthen existing partnerships. The MEP and HKUST already share a close and trusting collaboration, shaped by regular academic exchange. A visible sign of this connection is the appointment of the MEP’s Executive Director, Prof. Nikolaus A. Adams, as Adjunct Professor in the “Thrust of Sustainable Energy Environment” at the Function Hub at HKUST (GZ) in February 2026.
