Hydrogen is currently being discussed as one of the future energy sources in the energy transition. The question therefore arises in which areas hydrogen can be used sensibly and what challenges are associated with switching to the new energy source.
As part of the STROM project, representatives from industry and research at the TUM Campus Garching dealt with this question on July 8, 2024.
The workshop began with a general introduction to the topic and input on the global costs of hydrogen infrastructure from the TUM Chair for Renewable and Sustainable Energy Systems.
Two partners from industry then gave presentations that provided a detailed overview of the possible uses of hydrogen in the areas of heat supply (Thüga AG) and industry (Wacker Chemie AG). A lecture by the TH Rosenheim provided more detailed insights into hydrogen in the building sector.
The necessary steps to expand the infrastructure for a future hydrogen supply were described in an article by bayernnets GmbH, which was illustrated using the example of the H2Direkt project (Energie Südbayern GmbH).
The event was rounded off with a final discussion on the lectures heard.
