Can additive manufacturing reduce green hydrogen production costs? How to optimally utilize green hydrogen in chemical processes? Two new PhD candidates at APT have started working these questions in late 2021.

We used the soluble hydrogenase to recycle the oxidized cofactor NAD+ and drive the synthesis of keto acids form sugars. This highly oxidative biocatalytic pathway was performed without oxygen. This circumvented the need of bringing oxygen into aqueous systems, which is very challenging. Only green hydrogen was produced with no carbon based by-products. A manuscript is under preparation.

The new Chair of Sustainable Drivetrains was founded within the TUM School of Engineering and Design on 1st October 2021.
