In a recent publication in the Journal of The Electrochemical Society, the Chair of Technical Electrochemistry at TUM presents a systematic investigation of lithium diffusion in highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG). Based on time- and temperature-dependent measurements, the researchers determined the diffusion coefficient of the LiC₆ phase and showed that the progression of intercalation can be well described by a Fickian diffusion model in cylindrical geometry. The model relies solely on the diffusion coefficient (D₀) and activation energy (Eₐ), making it particularly suitable for direct implementation in established electrochemical simulation environments.
