On July 30, 2025, the second on-site meeting of the TUM.Hydrogen & PtX Network took place at the Chair of Energy Systems. In addition to personal exchange, the agenda included two exciting insights into current research activities.
First, the newly developed pressure test rig for SOEC and SOFC cells was presented. This setup allows high-temperature cells to be tested under realistic conditions with the aim of further improving their efficiency and durability. It’s an important step toward high-performance hydrogen and electricity storage solutions for the future.
Next, the focus shifted to sustainable methanol synthesis: the new membrane reactor test stand was introduced, which enables the selective removal of water directly inside the reactor. This shifts the chemical equilibrium in favor of methanol formation, increasing yield and reducing the need for recycle streams – an innovative approach for more efficient Power-to-X processes.
To round off the evening, the grill was fired up. With delicious food, cold drinks, and perfect weather, the evening ended in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. There was plenty of laughter, engaging conversations, and a collective toast to the upcoming summer break.
