In this recent study from the Chair of Technical Electrochemistry, researchers developed a 3-electrode lithium-ion cell that allows operando detection of released O2 and dissolved TMII+ from the cathode. Both effects represent important degradation mechanisms in lithium-ion batteries for which an affordable analysis technique has now been developed.
