TUM-Oerlikon Advanced Manufacturing Institute
Discover how the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and Oerlikon, a Swiss technology group, are collaborating to improve advanced manufacturing (AM) technologies. Together, they've established the Advanced Manufacturing Institute (AMI), located at TUM's campus in Garching. This collaborative hub brings together TUM researchers and the Oerlikon team to tackle technical challenges and move AM towards industrialization. The AM Institute's goals are clear: conduct research that benefits both industry and academia, train the next generation of AM experts, revolutionize engineering processes, and foster collaboration among academia, industry, and government for mutual success. Focused on Advanced Manufacturing for metals and other materials, the Institute concentrates on three key research areas: developing new AM materials, improving end-to-end AM processes, and advancing AM digitization throughout the entire production cycle. More information can be found on the website of the AMI.
At MEP, we coordinate an industrial-academic research cluster, the Advanced Manufacturing Institute (AMI), with our partner Oerlikon. This collaborative center brings together researchers from TUM and Oerlikon to tackle technical challenges and improve the industrialization of advanced manufacturing (AM) technologies. The institute aims to benefit to benefit the interests of both industry and academia by conducting research, training AM expertise, and innovating engineering methodologies. With a focus on metals and other materials, AMI concentrates its research efforts on developing novel AM materials, enhancing end-to-end AM processes, and pushing forward AM digitization initiatives.
